Writers Block, Cats, and Maymont:

I hate it when it happens because no matter what I do I cannot work on creative writing at all, or on my current projects. The only time it happens though is when I am too tired to do anything. I woke up early yesterday to take my cats to get their shots.

This is Crystal

My cat Callie

I hang out with my boyfriend that day, and had to go to the dentist to get my teeth cleaned. Then I went to the store, but before that my brother got his hair done. I got a page done during the wait to the dentist, and finished highlighting the original story. I do dishes, and go on Facebook, read blogs, but I really cannot write down anything since I hit a block. I feel stuck, and maybe it is because of the lack of planning out the story, and the fact that I never went over chapter by chapter of the story. Sometimes that is not the case, and sometimes your so tired from work that you cannot write anything at all. Tiredness? Stress? Just really don’t feel like doing anything thanks to watching reality tv all the time? Maybe.

I hit a block with the retail story, and Astral Witch because I have not thoroughly outlined them yet. Relaxing seems to help me beat it because work stresses me out and tires me to the point where I just want to sit.

I went to Maymont park with my boyfriend and his friend to get out of my funk, and spend time with friends. To get out of the house and get some exercise. This picture I got is spectacular, and pretty I love lions.

Going there helped me get back to nature. Showering helps too since some of the best ideas are in there. It also helps with the writers block, and sometimes movies and tv shows can help.

I have been watching Hardcore Pawn lately and reading Retail Hell by Freeman Hale, and Secrets of Retail by J. W. Morgan to be entertained, and see the funny customer reactions to inspire me to write some crazy customer stories myself. I eat snacks to boost my brain into helping me beat Writers Block. Reading books with fiction exercises, and doing them helps me too when dealing with a block. I am taking Creative Writing 2 and Novel Writing 1 in the fall. I hope those classes will help me with being a better writer, and help me find a writing routine. I will talk more about a writing routine in another blog post.

Anyways to beat writers block for you that work? Why does it help?

School is over!!

…At least until May 21st when I start Creative Writing 2, and I could not be happier. I got a B in Zoology, and I thought I would get a C. I got a better grade, and left it at that. No school, and just work means I will have extra time to do the things I enjoy, and even when I start Creative Writing it will be online. This summer I will hopefully get the reviews for The Writer, and Writers Digest magazines. I have been busy, and I am working on my first novel more. The revenge anthology has yet to be decided on a publication date after a few negative comments regarding the stories, and  that is why it will not be published yet. I have been kicking around some ideas of what to do with them like make some of them longer, or put them in the back of The Killer Contract 2 especially since they deal with Scarlet Nightshade.

I have been reading more, and there are a few things I have learned about myself as a writer.

  1. I will not kill off main characters.
  2. I love happy endings, and the villains getting what they deserve.
  3. I hate weak heroines that complain all the time, and expect the guy to rescue her.
  4. The story has to have supernatural elements.

Those are just some off the top of my head. Do you guys have anything you have learned about yourself while reading?

Drama Never Ends!!

I thought that once I left high school the drama is gone forever none of this he said, she said stupidity. I was wrong. I was in for a rude surprise considering it never is going to stop because wherever you go there is someone trying to create problems for you. There is always someone trying to bring you down, and people who belittle you, and try to make you look bad.

College and work places have drama too. People get into your business all the time, and people try to start stuff with you because of stupid reasons. If you stick out like a sore thumb, or have hobbies that are not like theirs they will start stuff with you. They do it because they have nothing better to do then to go to work and that is it. Or they just go to school, and they need to start drama to feel more important. They are bored with their lives, and starting stuff is a way to make their life less dull. These people are pathetic considering they have to have drama in their lives to feel anything. They have a habit of picking on people they consider weak, and go after them. The best way to get back at them? Ignore them!!! It will piss them off the most to see you happy like you really could care less they are in your life.

Updates….

I finally finished typing up the original story called The Story of Kitty Starfire, and I turned it into Blood Fire & Moon Watch. I changed the main character’s name to Serena, and added a vampire side to the story. It was just going to be with werewolves, but I added vampires too cause it will be important to the series. In the meantime I am highlighting all the parts I want to put in the story to make it more descriptive, and I will be editing the anthology as soon as the feedback arrives for the story. I will be working on more projects as soon as I have the two books done. I still have some ways to go with editing.

Writing and editing take a long time, and this is a long process in the meantime I am going to have a little fun, and give you some insights into one of my projects titled: Retail Sucks:The Retail Diaries. It is still in rough draft phase. I am letting Scarlet Nightshade take the reins, and let her at this one. This is her top ten questions people ask customer wise that annoy her:

Hi, my name is Scarlet Nightshade, and due to a moment of stupidity on Jeff’s Detective agency they have assigned me to work at Willy’s Place, and all-purpose shoe, jewelry, and clothing store. I have no idea why they would send me there, but I have a feeling the body that turned up smashed in the baler had something to do with it. Here is my top ten stupid questions and situations that annoy me, and after it I will put down my reply since you’re not really allowed to yell or hit the customer for asking a stupid question.

  1. Do you work here? No, of course not I am only wearing the company name tag, and uniform where it clearly states the company for fun.
  2. Is the jewelry in this case real? No, of course not we only lock up fake costume jewelry in here. And if you want the real stuff go to Terry’s place because they obviously have real stuff in there.
  3. Where is the shoe department? I have no idea maybe in front of your face of course it is right there in front of you it is not my fault your too blind to see it.
  4. If the item turns up with no price is it free? No, because you had to ask a stupid question like that it is 5 bucks for you since you had to ask that.
  5. This item looks the same, but it is a different price why? I have no idea the company does it not us. Stop asking me that when I am not in charge of the company.
  6. Can I get my ——–repaired here? Not expensive stuff, and do not ask to get other items repaired that our store does not carry because the answer will be no.
  7. How much is the item? Maybe you should look for yourself considering it is on the tag, and your too blind to see it. (The price is correctly displayed on the items.)
  8. I ring item, and item is not what it says on the tag. Can I get it for this since it said it instead of this? Or do you want me to get the manager? People are allowed the price, but I cannot understand why they want a manager. People complain if I say no.
  9. The people that leave the item for you to repair, and then leave expecting you to do it regardless of you can or not. Then they complain when you are following the rules.
  10. I hate coupons because there is so many of them, and if you forget it a customer will glare, and say, “What are you going to do about it?” in a rude way. How about try not to punch you in the face? I hate rude people, and people who treat you bad for working in retail…

Okay back to me, and I hope you guys have enjoyed her list. Her story will be published by the end of next year, or sooner since I am working on it more.

Until next time,

Finding my passion again for the stories:

It has been a long time since I have been emotionally involved with a story. At first I really did not put my heart and soul into what I did. I did with some stories, but not the way I am now. I read over what I written originally for my novel, and I now find bits and pieces to use to make the character shine through. I got so involved I feel like I am the character.

That is what being a story teller is about, and it is about taking readers on a journey through the world you create. It is about making them be a part of it too. That is what writing is about. I love it, and it makes me happy. It makes me cry tears of joy knowing I finally got my passion back after having it gone thanks to other life experiences interfering. I am not letting it happen because I know I have what it takes to be an awesome story teller. I was born this way, and all the people in the world will not stop me from achieving my dreams: Becoming a good, successful stay at home author. I love being able to write whenever. I am writing notes to my story as I edit giving he characters more depth of emotions. I am creating a fantastical world full of magic, and creatures galore.

If you want something as bad as I do go after it, and never let anyone tell you that you cannot do it. Cause there is a saying I have heard: “Go Big or go home.” Put your heart and soul into the work you are doing, and you will not regret it in the first place.

Novel in the Works, and Progress on the Others:

Thanks to my current job I have another book in the works. I am writing one about working for a company called Willy’s Place. It is not a real company at all, but a made up one inspired by retail stores in general. That is right retail, and the main character is the vampire named Scarlet Nightshade, and I am bringing her back for another book. She is the star of The Killer Contract Agency two, and she has another book called Scarlet’s Redemption. I love writing about her because she is a sassy vampire.  Stephan will make appearances in it too. And she will account her tails of customers behaving badly, but there will be some good situations too. I am letting people see what really goes on as an employee working in a retail store.

As for the other projects I have been working on Hexlax some, and I will try to get a traditional contract for the Astral Witch series, and Blood Fire & Moon Watch the rest will be self-published because there are more books as far as character stories. There could possibly be more stories for the Blood Fire & Moon Watch series too in the future.

I am an avid reader as well, and I know I promised to review The Writer, and I am working on it when I can. I have been busy with work, and school. Now that my hours are being shorter after this week I will have more time to read. I have also discovered I can read and write during my lunch break which is what I have been doing to make writing a part of my life. I will be writing a blog post about making time for writing too since that is what I am experimenting with.

Any thoughts?

Writing and Life…And Hunger Games!

Last week nearly killed me thanks to working the whole week, but now that my schedule is back to where I want it I will keep going. I am printing out my first novel, and the extra scenes. The other copy is so old, and used that I want to start fresh. I have been working a lot, and going to school. I just got a new keyboard to type up my stories easier as much as I love my laptop there is nothing better then using a keyboard separate from it.

I am also working on editing the anthology, and hope to have the feedback for it in a month. You can say I am a little impatient in getting it out there, but editing takes some time…I even saw…The Hunger Games movie!

*Spoilers Ahead if you have not read the book*

This is what I think of it: I read the book, and I can say that the movie did not disappoint me at all. I loved seeing The Capitol. I loved seeing the control room for the games, and the outfits that the people were wearing were spectacular. I loved the actors who played Gale and Peeta. Jennifer Lawrence was a good Katniss Everdeen too, and she brought the character to life really well. It all takes place in the city of Panem, and there are 12 districts. The Hunger Games was the Capitols way of controlling the population. It was pretty quick in the jump to the games. I was surprised about how fast the action was, and thankful it was not that gory. It was bloody, but not to the point where you could see inside the contenders bodies. The environment of district 12 was incredibly done, and I still cannot get over how amazing the Capitol was in the movie. I was amazed by the tracker jackers too, but they could have looked more menacing then looking like ordinary wasps. The dogs were the final touch, and they were cool too, and I was happy they did not look like the contestants because it seemed like that was random in the book. I loved Woody Harrelson as Haymitch, and I figured he played that role beautifully too.

The Hunger Games was a good movie overall, and I would recommend seeing it in theaters because it has everything. Action, romance, and showing a tyrannical government not to mess with kids.

Writing news, books, and magazines to review too!

I have finally finished the anthology Karma Turns on The Wicked. I just gave the story to readers I trust to look over grammar and wording issues. I will make it free when it comes out on the weekends. I will try to post something on the blog more starting every Monday.
I have not really had time to do anything writing related that much with work and school eating up my time. I have gotten some writing done story idea wise, and a little bit of reading for fun like: Bloodlines by Richelle Mead, Night Veil by Yasmine Galenorn, the rest of The Sexiest Vampire Alive by Kerrelyn Sparks, and various ebooks by authors too. I plan on reading more writing related books. I have worked on some of my projects. Here is what I have been working on, and my progress so far:
  • ·       Blood Fire & Moon Watch: Done, but I have to put it all together and edit it.
  • ·       Wolf Soul: Outline and some pages.
  • ·       Killer Contract 2: Outline, and 1 chapter finishing two. I just found my outline chapter by chapter finally after losing it.
  • ·       Psychic Vampires and Witches Oh My!: Outline, and a few chapters need to do more of a chapter by chapter outline too, so I  know where I am going with the story.
  • ·
  •   Hexlax: Outline, and one Chapter going on two.
  • ·       Lady Black: Same status as above.
  • ·       Retail Sucks! Retail Diaries: Outline done, but need a more extensive one.
  • ·       Popular Witches: Outline, and a few pages into it.
  • ·       Soul Snatcher: Outline, and a few pages.
Some of the outlines are only a page long, but when I work on the story I will write a more extensive one with chapter by chapter descriptions to know where I am going.
I have a ton of work to do, but I am mainly focusing on Killer 2 and Psychic Vampires, and Witches On my! The two main characters Scarlet from Killer 2 and Sapphire from the Psychic vampires series appear in the upcoming anthology, and the first chapters of the two novels appear in the anthology as well.
I have also realized how fun writing exercises are, and that is why I have:
·
  • Writing Fiction Step by Step By: Josip Novakovich
  • ·       The 4am Breakthrough by Brian Kiteley
  • ·       The 3am Epiphany by Brian Kiteley
  • ·       Now Write: Fiction Writing Exercises from Todays Best Writers and Teachers. Edited by: Sherry Ellis. Authors: many since the writers have their own exercises.
I will do a blog post on each of them, and I have other books on the craft of writing too. I will eventually do a blog post on The Writer, and Writers Digest too since I buy those magazines every month because of how helpful they are on writing tips and publishing. Another book I have is Stephan King’s On Writing.I got past the memoir half, and now I am on to the fiction part where he talks about writing fiction. I have the Plot Whisperer too by Martha Alderson. I will try to keep everyone updated every
Monday. I am even going to see the Hunger Games movie on the 26th. I will let you know what I think about it.
Anymore writing exercise books to review on the blog that I missed? Anything you guys would like to see for possible blog topics, and questions you have for me? Guest posts are welcome too just send me an email at:
Jdsamuels25(at)yahoo(dot)com.
Until next time,

Love and Revenge…

I have been busy with work and studying for tests. I will be blogging more on my time off from work. I have been through a lot lately. The one thing I have discovered though is I lost the urge to write revenge, and I will admit one of the reasons why I wrote one of my stories is because I loved the thought of people getting what they deserve. I loved the thought of people who are horrible to others dying by people who they victimized.

The answer to revenge though is not letting them effect you what so ever. It is no longer revenge that motivates me, but love that does. It is an anchor in a way, and without it then you go down a road you do not want to go. The people that wrong you and pick on you are actually a bunch of jealous people who are miserable with their lives. They put down others to make themselves feel better, and then it does, but the feeling goes away then they are looking to do it all over again.

The same thing goes for spending too much money on things because you think it would make you happy. In all reality it is actually instant gratification that is making you behave that way. I used to be like that, and I just stopped because I have all I could possibly want right now. A mom who loves me, and cooks for me, a dad who spoils me, friends, technology, and a loving, caring boyfriend that is all I could ask for.

People bullied me not because of this or that, but because I have a good life. I am more grateful now for it. I love my Kindle Fire, Ipod touch, .38 revolver, Xbox 360, and PSP I was so busy I did not have time for friends or video games. I need those things though in order to be more happy, and hanging with friends is what makes me happy, and so do video games. The answer to revenge is not to hurt the person, but to forgive, move on, and do the things that make you happy. Working towards a successful career helps too.

Any thoughts on success being the best revenge?

Anthology draft done!! And Plans for it and the future on:

I finally finished the anthology Karma Turns on the Wicked. All I have to do is type in the changes, edit it, and send it to beta readers. I am hoping to have the cover done in a few weeks too!! I was so happy I finally finished it I jumped around which is something I do not do as often anymore. I feel better now that I stopped taking medicine, and it made me sick I had to switch it. I feel alert, and all I plan on not writing revenge after the second Killer Contract book, and I am trying my hand at Young adult and Scifi.

I can already tell you what the anthology is about: Revenge stories, and there are even vampires, witches (Ones who can turn into any person just by looking at them), and I will introduce Scarlet Nightshade who is going to be staring in the Second Killer book. There will be excerpts of Die Bullies Die! The second Killer Contract book, and Psychic Vampires, and Witches oh my!

I plan on enrolling my book in the Kindle Select Program, and I will do a post on how it is going for me, but when the anthology comes out in March or April it will be free at first for a few days. I hope you enjoyed my updates..

Until next time,
